On this website you will find a comprehensive index to all the fiction that was published in The Star, a London evening newspaper that ran from 1888 to 1960. The Star had a long tradition of publishing short stories and serials, with many well-known authors contributing their work to the paper down the years. Famous writers whose stories appeared in The Star include Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Arthur Conan Doyle, Israel Zangwill, Emile Zola, Walter de la Mare, Katharine Tynan, Ursula Bloom and Richmal Crompton. Fiction featured prominently in The Star for much of its lifespan and the paper's large circulation meant that for decades thousands of London commuters enjoyed the countless stories that were published in the newspaper. Among the most regular contributors to The Star were Mary Gallati, Bill Allison, Richard Marsh, Olive Wadsley, Fred M. White, Robert Halifax and Blanche Wills Chandler. By far the most prolific writer of fiction for The Star was F. W. Thomas, a journalist whose career with the paper incorporated several decades and literally thousands of articles, sketches, poems and short stories.

This website represents the results of many months of research carried out by myself at the British Library. I hope researchers find this resource useful. Follow the links above to explore the contents of this website.

In addition to this website, I have created an online fiction indexes for the Evening News and the Daily Mail.
